Be Sun Smart

Be as safe as you can in the sun because you don’t want to get skin cancer also known as melanoma.

If you wear sunscreen you won’t get sunburnt or melanoma. Sunscreen is a thick protective layer from the sun. If you wear sunscreen regularly you won’t get sunburnt and make sure you put water proof sunscreen on when you’re swimming.

If you stay in the shade more than the sun you won’t get sun stroke. Sun stroke is when you get sick and vomit. If you drink lots of water you won’t get dehydrated. Remember the sun can’t give you shade it can only make you overheat.

If you wear a hat in the sun that covers your ears and neck you won’t get sunburnt. If you have clothes that can cover your legs and arms I would recommend wearing them because you need to cover as much as you can of your body so that your skin won’t get sunburnt.

So now you know about skin cancer/ Melanomas you will hopefully be sun smart.

Market Day

On Saturday 16th November the leadership group had a community/family fun day

because we wanted to raise money for the garden area.

We sold things like kindling, baking, toffee apples plus more, and we even had a sausage

sizzle and a  thrift shop.

It was good because we made a lot of money and got good comments about us

Working.

We all had fun,(the waterslide was fun as).

We learnt how to get the right change and about selling people items.

We had fun throwing sponges at people at the face splash.

Be smarter than the sun

We need to protect our wonderful skin from life threatening diseases caused by the sun.

If you don’t protect your skin you might get skin cancer or malenoma, making you very sick and sometimes ending in death.

To protect ourselves from getting burnt use sun screen at least twice a day if it is sunny.

Too much time in the sun can be very harmful. Too much time can get yourself sun burnt. You can get sun stroke too, it is very harmful.

Make sure you are smart around the sun.

Market Day

On Saturday the 16th we had had our Family/community market fun day at Glenham School.  In term 1 the leadership group decided to have a Market day at the end of the year to raise money to upgrade our Garden area.

There were six stalls selling different stuff.  Some of the activities were a Bouncy Castle, waterslide and Face Splash.  There were lots of food such as, Sausages, American Hot Dogs and baking and lots of drinks.

It took about a month and a half to organize the day.  It turned out great despite the weather.

A big thank you to everyone who helped out, without your support the day wouldn’t of happened.

We really enjoyed the day because it was very successful.

Leadership Day

Leadership day!

On Tuesday 17th of September the year five & six’s had their leadership day.  We were building compost bins.

In the morning we were either digging holes, prying wood apart with the crowbar or cleaning the worm farm.  All the girls apart from Gabrielle and I were cleaning the worm farm.  Hayden, Ashton and Ezekiel were digging the holes.  Ted, Stirling and Bond were using the crowbar.  Gabrielle and I were pulling out nails.  Mr Avery was helping us build the compost bins.

After morning tea we were setting up putting the pellets where they were going to go and we started nailing everything together.  All of us put the compost bins together.  It was about one o’clock when we were finished. They look awesome.
